Not all of the search engines pay attention to your domain name but a lot of them do. That means if you decide to place a keyword in your domain name you will be indexed by most of the search engines under that keyword. People who are searching for your targeted keyword tend to rather click on search results that have their searched keyword in the domain name. You see a well selected domain name can be a huge advantage. What is the perfect domain name? Well, have a look at my tips.
Keywords + Info = More Clicks
Take a domain name that describes your chosen niche/ topic best. So let´s say you are an expert when it comes to broccoli (Hmmm….I hate broccoli). You should take the domain name www.broccoli.com. However www.broccoli.com will already be taken so you have to be a little creative here. That is also an opportunity to place a second keyword in your domain name. For example www.broccolirecipes.com. If you are a broccoli expert and a passionate cook and you want to share your incredible broccoli recipes with the world then this domain name is highly related to your niche.
You can also make your domain name local. If your website is about a restaurant in New York which only serves broccoli dishes then you can take the domain name www.broccolinewyork.com. (What the hell am I writing here??) That means that you have two keywords in your domain name again.
Well the example is quite… interesting but I think you see where I am going with this.
Numbers in your domain name are a No No
You know the time when everybody put a number in a text? For example 4 you? 2 see you? You know what I mean? Yeah? Okay, well that´s BS.
Don´t do that if you want your readers to remember your domain name. Back in the day people thought it was cool to replace words with numbers it was somekind of trendy but you are only confusing your readers. Your readers will be confused about your domain name and they won´t remember it right: “Well, was it www.broccoli4u.com? Was it www.broccolifouryou.com? Was it www.broccoliforyou.com? Aaaaah screw it I´m gonna eat pizza today, Yeah!”
That is not what you want! You want a simple domain name.
Keep it short and simple
It might be better to have a lot of keywords in your domain name but your readers will not remember it. So just take a domain name that is clean and simple.
It is not only your domain name that you should think about here. You probably will also have an emailadress with your domain name. Now imagine your domain name will be www.bestbroccolirecipesforcooksinnewyorkandlasvegas.com. Your emailadress will be the same. For example: firstname.lastname@example.org. If your website runs great and you build a great business you might want to have business cards. There is no business card in the world which is long enough for that!
So keep in mind: Short and simple!
You can also choose a brandable name
You do not have to choose a domain name with your targeted keyword. You can also choose a domain name that is brandable. However you should keep it simple and it should be a catchy name that people will remember.
Purchase more then one domain (Tip)
You should purchase more domains than one. There are a lot of people out there that copy successful websites with very similar domain names. You can avoid that if you purchase your domain name with .org .net .eu and so on. However you don´t have to do it it is just to be on the safe side.
Where can I buy a domain?
I purchased my domains on www.namecheap.com and I am very satisfied with it since it is very easy to purchase a domain name there. You just type in what you want and they will show you if it is available – that´s it. However there are many more websites that offer domain names.
So my friends as you see just don´t get too crazy on your domain name. Just keep it simple!
