A Beginners Guide: SEO

A Beginners Guide: SEOIf you read my post “How to Get Traffic to My Website” you should know now how to get traffic to your website. Well, at least you know the basic possibilities of it. In that post I also mentioned SEO- Search Engine Optimization. Maybe you heard it before, but if you are completely new to it, you might have a big question mark above your head.
This post “A Beginners Guide: SEO” will help you to turn that question mark into a big and shiny exclamation mark!

What is Search Engine Optimization – SEO?

Search Engine Optimization is the art of ranking in search engines like Google or Yahoo. You optimize your website, so the search engines like it and show your website in the first results of their pages.

If you have a website, then this site has a topic. Let´s say your website is about pink lavatory brushes. So you want to make sure, that you rank high in the search engines with your website for pink lavatory brushes, meaning you want your website to appear on the first site of google for example. To make sure that it ranks on the first site of google, you do SEO.

Why you want to do SEO

Google for example is a big search engine. Every day thousands of people search millions and millions of words through Google, articles, websites… they just search information and opportunities. However you may know from your own experience, that you only look on the first page of google if you did a search. That means if you want to get traffic and make a big load of money, you should rank on the first page of Google! Therefore you should do your research on SEO… well, if you are reading my post, you are already doing that…very good 🙂

Why SEO is more profitable then Social Media

As I said, every day people search millions of things in the search engines. So, if people want to buy some stuff online, they type into the search engines what they are looking for. That means if you rank high in the search engines you have the possibility to place your website right in front of people that are willing to buy stuff.
file000944905813If you share your website through Social Media, you might get a lot of traffic, but there will more likely be less people that are willing to buy stuff right when they see it on your website, since they click on your links most of the time out of interest, they have not the intention to buy. Don´t forget: Most of the times! That does not mean, that social media is useless. It is not!

What do I have to do if I want to rank high in the search engines?

1. Keywords are…well, they are the key.

If you have a website about a specific topic like lavatory brushes, you want to have your keyword on your webiste. You may ask yourself now: “What is a keyword?” So keywords are the words that you are targeting with your website. If your site is about pink lavatory brushes, your keyword is pink lavatory brushes.
It is important that the search engines find your keywords throughout your content.

Why is that so?
The search engines have little crawlers that crawl your website very often. If they find your specific keyword (like pink lavatory brushes) very often, they are going to know: “Oh this site is about pink lavatory brushes. It should turn up when people are searching for pink lavatory brushes, let´s rank this site higher for that keyword.”

That does not mean that you should write content that makes no sense, but has a lot of keywords. I will create a post about Keywords in the next days. (Here is the post about Keywords)

2. Have a lot of high quality sites linking to your website (Backlinks)

Ranking under the right keywords was the easier part. Having other quality sites linking to your website can be a little bit more difficult. However, what does that mean?

SEO for beginnersWe want to have other quality websites placing links on their sites that lead to our website. That is really powerful, because the search engines like such links. The search engines are dumb in a way when it comes to those links.
If another high quality website has placed a link leading to your website they see this as a kind of vote for your website and they will rank you a little bit higher in the search engines.

Why do the search engines do that?
I explain it really simple. If the website A is ranking really high in the search engines, it means that the search engines have a good opinion about the site A. If the website A places a link to another website called B, the search engines will take notice of that. They know that the website A is a high quality website that only would link to other websites that offer high quality content.

So if A links to B, than B is going to get a little boost in the search engines.

Links from other website to your website are called “Backlinks”.
There are a lot of details you should keep in mind about SEO and of course, there is a lot more to write about this topic and don´t worry, I will write more about SEO and what you should mind about it in my next posts. (Click here for my post about getting ranked high in the search engines)

Hmmmm .I think we only market the site into soiacl media and soiacl sites to get the quality target and if possible back links, which would indirectly help us find good positions in search engines..Search engines are the places which are more often viewed for any information rather than any other soiacl networking site.Therefor, search engines are much more important over soiacl networking.

I think you are absolutely right here. I said in one of my posts that the traffic which comes from the search engines is the better traffic. Traffic which comes from the search engines is targeted traffic and that means that it converts better then traffic from social media.

People have gone way overboard on the soical media scam. It is not for marketing your website, it is a soical setting, and if you look at them, there are little, if any consumer or service type sites on them. One of the few ways to generate revenue from them is if you have a news based site and are selling advertising space, An Image site that host peoples pics, and sometimes interesting and funny pics get to the top, other than this, you are wasting your time. They are looking for entertainment or political news on these type of sites, Period! If you have a service or product site, unless you have the new and crazy new invention, you are spinning your wheels using soical media. The search engines work for service and e-commerce because it is targeted traffic by keyword. This means if you have potato chips for sales on your site, and someone searches for potato chips, you have a realistic chance of making a sale, but I doubt that soical media will bring any sales, because it is i ran across this or boardom type traffic, where with search engines, they are finding you by keywords, which means they were actively looking for that specific thing.Online marketing is not rocket science, but common sense. Just think it through.
